Back in Business

Finally, I am back to where I was several weeks ago... I gave two coats of white and lightly sanded the surface for smoothness.

Masking the Surface

The masking process seems tough on this kit; I identified the masking points correctly by using decal templates I made earlier. Of course, identifying and measuring these masking points aren't fun to do, but with some patience, I was able to complete the masking process without thinking too much about anything.

BMW Williams Blue!

I applied two heavy coats of the same paint mix that I used for Revell's Fw23 on this. From going forward, I can pick up some speed building this kit. Applying decals is always fun and I enjoy setting up suspensions. I am looking forward to next steps! And trust me, it is rewarding too when you starting to see a car coming out.

BMW Williams Blue!

I am still excited about the fact that Williams scored 1-2 finish from the European G.P. last Sunday!

I can see the paint line build-ups between blue and white color. They will be removed by 2400 grade sand paper before I start the decal work...

Ralf Schumacher's Fw24

Williams blue looked quite accurate on the hot-natural-Chicago-summer-sun-light.

Ralf Schumacher's Fw24

As I was applying decals, I identified following tasks: 1) clean up decal tears 2) bring out recess lines 3) add P/E work on surface 4) apply exhaust shields. This car better look good when I am finished with it!

Adding Exhaust Shields

This is an easy approach to finding an effective solution.

Minor Problems

Minor problems here and there, nothing too serious... For now, I will concentrate on finishing up the decal work.

Exhaust Heat Shields

This may not be the correct representation of the heat shields, but sometimes:

Decal placements

Believe or not, I found that the sponsor decal locations are not always exactly the same from one G.P. to another G.P. They are fairly uniform, but not exact. For example, the decal placement of "Veltins" might be 3 to 4 inches off from the mirror mount in one G.P., and it might be off as much as 5 inches off in another race! I think it all comes down to the person who is responsible of applying the race decals prior to every race!
